Online Course
This course is for any physiotherapist who is not 100% confident in treating clients with low back pain, no matter how complicated. When over 80% of clients with low back (and/or leg pain) cannot be attributed to a precise structure, an anatomical approach to assessing and treating is not very successful. This course will teach you how to properly assess and treat clients using a syndrome-based approach, techniques, provide exercises and education to the client, as well as manual therapy techniques.
With COVID-19 the benefit of The Simple Approach to Low Back Pain: Assessment and Treatment is that we can still take a thorough history, physical assessment, and guidelines for treatment, all over Telehealth or in an office without ever touching the patient. I’ve realized that 100% of my Low Back Assessment and Diagnosis is the same in person as it is on telehealth, and I’m thankful that this approach gives me the confidence to know I’m providing the right care.
This course will include essential history taking, physical examination, and pain control strategies for the patient. You will be able to give a diagnosis based on a syndrome-based approach, pain control strategies and education, to help them manage their pain at home after this assessment. There will be examples of assessment and treatment, along with case studies and exercise progression.

Telehealth for Physical Assessment
The benefit of The Simple Approach to Low Back Pain: Assessment and Treatment is that we can still take a thorough history, physical assessment, and guidelines for treatment, all over the phone or in an office without ever touching the patient. That is why I’ve decided to run a one day live stream course to do just that.
I am a manual therapist, but 100% of my low back physical assessment and diagnosis, is completed without laying my hands on the patient. I am often saying to my staff and students that the “poke test” is the least reliable test we can do for low back diagnosis. eg. “It hurts when I palpate the right SI joint, therefore the pain is coming from SI joint dysfunction.”
Low back pain affects 80% of the population, and as we all know can be very painful and scary for the patient. Giving the patient a diagnosis, reassurance regarding mechanical pain, and a home exercise program will enable them to manage their pain at home, and not have to go the emergency room.
